May News & Updates

May 2024

President's Message:

School has ended and kids are out on summer break. We want to thank all of our dedicated certificated staff, classified staff and administrators who each and every year ensure our students receive the best educational opportunities in the Alhambra USD. As over 1,500 students from the Class of 2024 graduated from the Rose Bowl last Friday and almost 1,000 8th graders were promoted to high school, these milestones are exciting and challenging as parents.

I read a great article back in 2020 "Life After High School" https://community.today.com/parentingteam/post/life-after-high-school-ideas-to-help-your-child-choose-a-profession which shares many options for students.

There is no right answer except to remember to support and love your child/children as they take the leap into adulthood. The best suggestion I can recommend is to "listen" to your children as they navigate through the next chapter in their lives.

I want to give a big shout-out to Pasadena Showcase House (PSH) President Suzanne Hart, her entire Board of Directors, and members. Many people do not realize the impact PSH has on our community with the generous grants they distribute each and every year. These grants assist many local non-profits with continuing or beginning a new program in visual and performing arts. These dedicated volunteers also recruit non-profits to volunteer to work at the Showcase House to receive shift credit that is paid back to the non-profit. AEF was able to participate again this year, and we are thankful to our Board Members who were able to volunteer. It is a great experience and you meet a host of people throughout the day.

THANK YOU PASADENA SHOWCASE HOUSE!

We want to thank all of the AUSD staff who participated in monthly payroll deduction for the past school year. Every year, employees donate to support our programs. We appreciate every employee at AUSD, and for the ones who gave, we gifted an AEF lunch bag as a small token of our appreciation for their support.

We are very excited that our summer school will begin Monday, June 3rd for our elementary students and June 6th for our high schoolers. We have over 900 students registered and look forward to a great summer experience. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at summerschool@aef4kids.com.

On behalf of the AEF Board of Directors, I want to thank the community for your continued support of AEF, AUSD, and our students. Together, we make living in Alhambra, Monterey Park, San Gabriel, Rosemead, and South San Gabriel a better place. Great Schools Make Great Communities!

Enjoy your summer with your family, and we will see you back on August 13th when the first day of school begins!

Thank you for your continued support!
