President’s Message

August 2019

 Message from the President

To all of our students, parents, teachers, support staff, classified employees and administrators, welcome back! Hopefully you were able to enjoy a relaxing and fun summer either by taking a vacation, enjoying AEF Summer School or just spending time with family and/or loved ones.

As AUSD begins the second week of school, I am sure parents and students were a little anxious on the first day of school in a new grade level with a new teacher. As a parent of a second grader, I know how you felt when your child stepped into a new classroom with a new teacher and at some of our schools, with new principals. Our district administration did an outstanding job in working with all our schools to ensure a positive, seamless, and welcoming Day One of a new school year, which reduced the anxiety level and first day of school jitters. I want to thank all of our AUSD employees for their dedication and caring support they give to all students in AUSD. Without them, our children would not receive the best possible education they deserve every day throughout the school year – THANK YOU!

With the beginning of school, there are more kids on the streets and traffic in and around our schools. I reminding everyone to please slow down near our schools. Children are not always paying attention and may dart out between cars, in the street or step off the crosswalk a bit early. Please drive slowly and safely around our schools. Last year AEF invested in Speed Limit Awareness Signs in both Alhambra and Monterey Park. These signs warn drivers when they are traveling over the posted speed limit of 25 mph and ask you to slow down. Be mindful of our students around our schools and drive with caution.

Sign up now for the 6th Annual Pumpkin Run on October 27, 2019. AEF will be one of the benefactors this year and we are encouraging students, families, community and staff to enjoy the fun. The committee added a 10k Run this year that begins at 7:30 a.m. followed by the 5k Run/Walk and then finishing up with the Kids 1K Race. Afterwards you can enjoy the Kids Zone, Farmer’s Market and Alhambra Downtown Association Halloween trick or treating. For more information, go to Join the Alhambra Educational Foundation Run/Walk Group or any of the school groups and be part of a great team! There is a special discount for all AUSD parents, staff and students by typing in the code AEF. Set up teams by your school and whichever school has the most sign-ups will receive a gift card for school supplies!

We have added a calendar section of “Upcoming Events” to our newsletter to keep all of you informed of AEF activities and events. You can also go to our web page and look at our calendar for more information on upcoming events.
