President’s Message

December 2018

 Message from the President

Along with the Band Boosters from AHS, MKHS and SGHS, AEF held a fundraiser on December 1, 2018 at the Tri-City Band Field Show at San Gabriel High School. Over 1,000 people were in attendance to support our band students and help them get to Pasadena on January 1, 2020 to march in the 131st Rose Parade presented by Honda. Although we are only five miles away from Pasadena, it takes a lot of support and funds to prepare our students for the parade which includes new instrument purchases, replacement of All District Band Uniforms, transportation, music coaches and much more. AEF hopes to raise $200,000 to help provide a once in a lifetime experience and memories for the band students and their families. AEF has supported Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) programs for the past ten years and knows how these programs positively impact children’s lives.

It was an honor to be selected by Assemblymember Ed Chau as a recipient of the 2018 Making A Difference Award for the 49th Assembly District. AEF Board of Directors and AUSD administration attended the event on December 1, 2018 at the San Gabriel Hilton with over 500 people in attendance. Our mission is to give back to the District so every child has opportunities to have access to a well-rounded educational program.

It is with great excitement that I announce that the YMCA Board of Directors approved the MOU with AEF to assist and begin a partnership to run Camp Ta Ta Pochon in the San Bernardino Mountains. The camp has been in disrepair and closed since right after the 2015 Lake Fire. The camp has been in existence for over ninety (90) years where the YMCA has been providing the creation of friendships, healthy lifestyles, fun outdoor activities and nature at its best. AEF has agreed to invest up to $150,000 to remodel restrooms, repair the water tower, build retainer walls, build a new pool deck, repair the fire ring and much more. See the photos below of some of the work being done now. AEF will partner with AUSD and other school districts to offer Science Camp to our elementary school students. We are also planning to offer camp during Spring Break. Stay tuned for more information.

During this holiday season, there are many individuals and families that may not be as fortunate as you. This is the time to give back and assist in any way you can. It is also important for all of us to spend time with family and friends during the holiday season. We at AEF are very thankful for all of you who continue to support our projects and initiatives to help every child in the District and make a difference.

Have a Happy and Safe Holiday! We will see you all in 2019!
