Message from the President
As we end the month of May, the 2017-18 school year is also coming to a close. As many of you know, I am a very proud parent of a kindergartener who has completed his first year of school in AUSD. This is a time to celebrate all of our students’ successes in the Alhambra USD and AEF is very proud to be part of the success by supporting programs, equipment, teachers and counselors in our schools. Congratulations to the Class of 2018!
AEF and the YMCA of West San Gabriel Valley Board of Directors have agreed to work together to upgrade and operate Camp Ta Ta Pochon in Angeles Oaks, CA. AEF will support the camp with initial funding to help get the camp re-opened after being closed for the past three years. AEF will work with the District to provide 6th grade students with an opportunity to attend science camp. 6th graders will experience the outdoors while learning about science and our environment through District-developed curriculum. AEF and the YMCA will also offer several camping opportunities for families and groups throughout the year. More information will be coming very soon about this great partnership between the YMCA of WSGV and AEF that will benefit AUSD students and surrounding communities. We have a camp clean-up day this Saturday, June 2nd for those of you who want to come join the fun and help us prepare the camp for summer!
AEF Board of Directors volunteered with the AUSD Gateway to Success team to support the Food Bank at Alhambra High School on April 28th. It was very rewarding to provide over 300 families with food, clothing and social services support. If you want to make a donation or volunteer to support this program, please contact the AUSD Gateway to Success at http://www.ausdgateway.com. Be part of the Back to School Saturday event that will provide students and families with resources to help them have a successful start of a new school year!
AEF is also excited to share that we received two grants this past month. This includes the Pasadena Showcase House of the Arts for $5000 and the Tournament of Roses Foundation for $10,000. These grants will be used to provide continued support for the AUSD Music Program and expansion of the other areas of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA).
Our summer school programs begin on June 11th with over 1,500 students registered in our high school and elementary enrichment classes. We are very excited with our class offerings this year and are looking forward to our new online registration process for next year. Thank you to all who support our summer school enrichment program.
On behalf of the Board of Directors and students of the District, thank you for your continued support!
