President’s Message

April 2019

 Message from the President

Summer School Enrichment classes are filling up quickly, so please ensure a space for your child by registering now. It is easy to enroll by going to our web page and selecting the Summer School tab. If you have any questions about classes or need help registering, please call our office at 626-943-3080. Classes begin on June 10th for our elementary enrichment program and on June 13th for our high school students.

On April 6, 2019, the 15th Annual Service to Education Gala was held to honor those who give back to education. Over 415 people attended the evening event that included a well-received surprise performance by the Alhambra Unified School District Marching Band. Monies raised from the Gala will help support the participation of our AUSD Marching Band in the 2020 Rose Parade presented by Honda with the theme of “The Power of Hope.” See the pictures below of the 275 member band that filled the ballroom with music, energy and excitement!

It is with great excitement that AEF will offer two Summer Camp sessions at Camp Ta Ta Pochon. Attendance is open to any child from the age of 9 – 15 years of age. Go to our web page to register today! This is a great opportunity for your child to spend a week in the great outdoors of the beautiful San Bernardino Mountains hiking, canoeing, swimming, making crafts, but most of all meeting new friends and exploring the outdoors with other children.

AEF is sending fifth grade students from Park, Northrup, Marguerita and Granada to Science Camp during the week of May 13, 2019. This pilot program with over 270 students attending will kick off our partnership with the District and the YMCA to have all 5th grade students participate in a three day, two night Science Camp beginning next school year. This outdoor science experience will include District teachers teaching science lessons as well as opportunities for students to hike, canoe on Jenks Lake, learn archery and do crafts. We are excited about this exciting opportunity for all 5th grade students to participate in a hands-on residential outdoor science camp. Our goal is to expand our outdoor science camp to surrounding districts beginning in the 2020-2021 school year.

We are always looking for new Board Members. Please join the team that dedicates time and resources to ensure all our students in the Alhambra Unified School District benefit from educational opportunities and enrichment programs.

On behalf of the Board of Directors, thank you for your support of AEF and the students of AUSD.

Stephen R. Perry
