We are in full swing, getting ready for our Summer Enrichment Academy and Summer High School program. This year, our elementary program will be held at Marguerita Elementary School in Alhambra with our high school program back at San Gabriel High School. Our afternoon 4th-8th grade classes will also be held at San Gabriel High School with bus transportation from Marguerita for parents who want to take advantage of the transportation opportunity. Please visit www.aef4kids.com for more information about classes offered, registration, and program dates.
We are very excited to partner with the District to send all 6th grade students to Outdoor Science Camp. We started our pilot program back in March 2019 with four elementary schools, and then, unfortunately, the COVID-19 pandemic changed our world. Post pandemic, AEF and AUSD have partnered with the Boys Scouts of America to secure a camp and a wonderful outdoor program. The first schools to attend will be Park and Fremont Elementary Schools from March 4th-6th, with Baldwin and Granada coming up from March 6th-8th. The rest of the schools will be following over the next two weeks in March for an educational fun time with fellow students and staff spending time in the great outdoors.
As parents, it may be a bit nerve-racking to let your child go for three days away from home. I promise you the experience of being in the mountains and participating in a hands-on outdoor science program is second to none. The best part about the three days is not only the great food prepared by the camp staff but no technology! This allows for bonding time with camp staff and fellow classmates and learning to work with one another face-to-face in person without texting or using Discord or iChat to communicate. If you have any questions about the camp and the experience, please do not hesitate to contact your principal or myself directly at sperry@aef4kids.com with any questions. This experience is so important for our students that AEF has contributed $50,000 to support the district's efforts to ensure every 6th grader can attend. We also set up a donation site to Adopt A Camper, where you can donate any amount.
Each and every year, AEF participates and supports our local festivals. We have been honored to be part of Northrup School's First Annual Lunar New Year Festival and Night Market and the Alhambra Lunar New Year Festival this past Sunday. We handed out over 1,200 fortune cookies at both events and provided information about AEF Summer Programs. As always, it is a great way to connect with the community to showcase how AEF supports our schools.
