What kind of organization is the Foundation and does it have a Tax I.D.?
The Alhambra Educational Foundation is a California 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. The tax ID is 95-4429310. Donations to AEF are tax-deductible to the full extent of applicable Federal and State tax laws.

How does AEF determine the programs that it raises funds for?
Working with the District administration, the AEF Board of Directors identifies programs and curriculum that will benefit the greatest number of students district-wide, ensuring that we have equity/parity between all our schools. We raise funds a year ahead of the programs’ implementation. For example, we raised $300,000 during the 2013-14 school year to fund the “Music & More” program starting in the 2014-15 school year.

Now that AEF has raised $300,000 for Music & More, what happens next?
Thanks to the generosity of many parents, community members and local businesses, AEF has donated $300,000 to the District to fund the Music & More programs for the 2014-15 school year.  Our three new music teachers, Ms. Thompson, Ms. Jones and Ms. Aras, started the music program at 7 elementary schools in October, and the remaining six schools programs will begin in February and continue through May.

How Does AEF Raise Money for our Schools and Students?
The Foundation raises money by accepting tax-deductible donations from our parents and community members, submitting grants to private foundations, from proceeds from our K-8 Summer Academy and High School Summer School, and from our fun community-wide events: the 10th Annual Service to Education Awards Gala (dinner, dancing, great food and drinks to be held on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at the Los Angeles/San Gabriel Hilton — a fun, community celebration of AUSD schools and our community) and the Taste of Alhambra (street party held on Second Street in Alhambra in June 2015).

Does AEF give scholarships to students?
The Foundation’s mission is to support programs and curriculum that benefit all students at all AUSD schools.  Currently, AEF does not offer any individual scholarships to students.

Can I deduct Summer Academy or Summer High School tuition/fees on my income taxes?
AEF is a non-profit organization that offers educational opportunities to students and does not fall under federal guidelines governing childcare facilities. Although AEF is a charitable organization, we are not a licensed child-care provider, and tuition for our summer programs is not considered a tax-deductible expense under current IRS guidelines. AEF will not provide tax ID# or receipts for income tax purposes for summer programs.

How Do I get an AEF yard sign? When will I get it?
This year, the AEF Board of Directors has decided that each and every family that makes a donation to AEF will receive a yard sign, regardless of the donation amount. Our yard signs are distributed to donors’ front yards every September by our AEF volunteer band of sign installers to thank them for supporting our schools and students.  The signs will stay up for 2 weeks, before being collected by AEF volunteers and stored for use the following year.  To get a yard sign in September 2015, simply make a tax-deductible donation to AEF between August 1, 2014 and July 31, 2015, and the sign will magically appear in your front yard in mid-September!

We support our child’s school PTA/PTSA. Why should I support the Foundation too?
To provide a great education to all our students, our community relies on both of these important support organizations. Each organization plays a different but invaluable role in educating your child. Our schools’ PTA/PTSAs promote parent advocacy, volunteers, and fund a variety of supplies and programs at their individual sites. AEF raises funds to provide curriculum, programs and teachers at all of our 13 elementary schools and at Alhambra, Mark Keppel, San Gabriel, Century/Independence High Schools.  Think of it this way: AEF provides STAFF, while PTAs provide STUFF.  Both are vital and essential to provide our kids with a complete education.

When are the Board meetings held?
The Board meets monthly, on the third Monday of the month (subject to change if the Monday falls on a holiday), at the Alhambra Unified School District offices located at 1603 Chestnut Street, Alhambra, CA 91803

What are AEF’s office hours?
Monday through Thursday, 8:30am to 4:30pm. We are closed on Fridays and weekends.

How can I get involved with AEF?
We welcome everyone who is passionate about providing our students with educational excellence and would like to see the return and expansion of arts, music and other academic and enrichment programs at all of our schools.
